Pre-completed tax return

All the pre-completed tax returns are now in MyTax. They arrive by post by the end of April.

  • If there is no need for corrections or additions in your return, you do not have to do anything.
  • If you want to make corrections, the deadline for them is 7 May, 14 May or 21 May 2024. You can check the deadline date on your tax return and in MyTax.

Instructions for filing

When you receive your tax return, this is what you should do:

1

Check the tax return

Always check all the pre-completed data on your tax return.

2

If everything is correct, you do not need to do anything

If there is nothing to add or correct, you do not have to do anything. If you have not made any changes by the deadline date, we will consider that you have submitted your return with the contents that were pre-completed in it.

3

Correct missing or incorrect details

If there is something that you must add to or correct in your tax return, make the changes in MyTax or file them on paper forms.

See the instructions for filing

The corrections you have made to your tax return in MyTax or on paper forms must arrive at the Tax Administration by the due date stated in your return, at 23.59. You can see the due date on your return’s cover page and in MyTax.

See also instructions for those who submit paper-printed tax forms.

Extended time for filing

You may ask for an extension of time for filing the tax return if you have a valid reason for it. Complete an application form and submit it to the Tax Administration before the deadline date of the tax return.

You can either

  • log in to MyTax to complete the extension form (Tax matters – Requests – Extended time for filing a tax return) or
  • print the form out on paper, fill it out, and send it to the Tax Administration.

You cannot add enclosures or free-text pages with additional taxpayer-provided information for the tax return, unless you are filling in one of the specific MyTax pages where this is provided for.

After you have logged in to MyTax to make corrections to your pre-completed tax return, you can see that the sections and pages of MyTax contain questions that you must answer. Your answers are the main method of giving the information that the Tax Administration needs. It is enough if you just fill in each space with the amounts, facts, and details as appropriate.

For example, to claim a tax-deductible expense, you simply fill in the amount and the information that MyTax has asked you to give. No enclosures, receipts or documentation are necessary. However, you should keep the receipts and documentation in a safe place for possible future use. In the same way, the MyTax view of your tax return contains no extra spaces for free-text additions. The Tax Administration will communicate with you if any information is needed that you have not already given.

Some of MyTax’ sections contain an “Upload an attachment file” feature – one of them is the section for sales of securities such as corporate stocks. In this case, the words Enclosures and Add a file appear.

Please note that the MyTax view does not contain numbered enclosure forms (such as Form 7H Rental income – Apartments in a housing company, or other numbered forms).

Instead of having to fill in many numbered forms for different kinds of income, you simply enter the amounts under the appropriate sections in MyTax. There are specific sections for different types of income. For example, rental income has a section of its own.
